The reviews are in: the Windows phone isn't all that after all

When the release date of the new iPhone was leaked, it was followed by a lot of talk about which smartphones on the market could withstand the blow that was to come. There were a lot of names put forward, big names from notable manufacturers of electronics all over the world. Personally, I prefer anything that can run my voip service smoothly, with little lag from the phone. After all, for business minded consumers, there is a need to make sure that business-related apps will run well with the phone they use on a regular basis.

So does the Windows Phone do that?
The Windows Phone seems to have disappointed users who were expecting a lot from it. The Windows Phone 8S manufactured by HTC, one of the latest in its lineup at that, seems to be a smaller version of the HTC 8X. It bears a design common among many HTC devices—excellent to the touch with a streamlined unibody design, and perfect for with one hand usage. It comes in a variety of colors: black and white, gray and yellow, blue and purple, and red and orange.

However, apart from its pleasing external aesthetics and the variety of color, that might be all the 8S might have to offer.

    The Pros and Cons
The display leaves a lot to be desired. In a world that is rapidly being filled with excellent smartphone display, and with the iPhone 5 now boasting the dazzling retina display, the 8S falls short of the standard. Its 4-inch screen does not display quite as well as the other smartphones, which can be a downer for people who read emails, view images and graphics on their phones, and like to see what they’re looking at with clarity and precision.

The usability is rather good, at least: Windows 8 functions well on this phone, and it runs with the phone’s 1GHz SoC. What remains to be seen is if this reaction time and performance will continue once more data is loaded onto the device. There’s another thing: the phone carries a mere 4GB of internal storage.

The camera is also not quite as good as its predecessor, the 8X, which possesses a far superior imaging chip. Strange, considering that the 8S should have better features, being the newer phone between the two. Unfortunately, this camera is only capable of taking 5mp, and has a video dimension of 720p. Compared to the HD capabilities of the other phones, this is, again, lacking.

Finally, the 8S is slim enough to fit comfortably in your hand, yet it is still surpassed by the 8X model, which is slimmer than the bulky Windows Phone. For all the features put into this phone, it does not possess a dedicated amplifier, leaving users with the inferior Beats Audio that comes with other HTC models.

It looks like, versus the Windows Phone, the iPhone 5 and other smartphones might be the better choice if one is looking for great features and great performance.
